BYU faculty and staff services: We can come to your office, demonstrate and install WordCruncher, answer questions, discuss your projects, and help you and your students as needed.
While you can add your own levels into WordCruncher books by modifying an ETAX file, you can also add levels to your text by using Word (or another program such as Google docs). This tutorial will use styles in Microsoft Word.
In order to create levels, you will need to use the heading styles. You will see an example below marking years, months, and TED Talk titles, but some texts will need different levels such as chapters.
We will use “Heading 1” for the top level, “Heading 2” for the next level, and so forth. You can add as many levels as you need, but we only need three in this text. You can also make changes to text font, size, and color of the styles, but the functionality of the levels will be the same.
You'll need to index your file with the Indexer. This will output two files: an ETBU file and an ETAX file. If you'd like to learn more about the WordCruncher Indexer, click here.
Open the ETBU file in WordCruncher and see the levels you have added.
