Add a Reference Book

Add a reference book

You may notice that books from the bookstore have certain dictionaries, lexicons, or other reference books assigned to them. When you are reading a book, you can right-click on a word and choose to open a study guide help or dictionary. The All Forms option also is dependent on having a lexicon added to the book—All Forms uses the lexicon to search for all forms of a word (e.g., search be to find is, am, and are). In this article, you'll learn how to add specific reference books to your own User Library books.

  1. Go to File > Open Book.
  2. Locate the text and right click > Properties.
  3. Click Options….
  4. Click the Reference Books tab.
  5. Find the desired reference book and click it.
  6. Select the arrow pointing to the Assigned reference bookssection.
  7. Click OK.

Reference book not working?

Some texts, like lexicons, have a language ID that allows them to search within your book. If you are trying to assign an English lexicon but the text language is set to neutral, your reference book will not work correctly.

Change the language ID

  1. Open the ETAX file for your text to check that the "id" attribute is set to the correct language.. Within the first few lines, you will see a LEX tag that looks something like this:
    <LEX st="English" id="en" chrBrk="—"/>
  2. Change the language ID to the desired language (e.g., "en" for English, "es" for Spanish, "de" for German, and so on).
  3. Open the Indexer and index the corrected ETAX file.
